An Overview and Perspective

In the digital age, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool capable of performing a myriad of tasks, from the mundane to the complex.

Its ability to assist in various domains has been widely recognized, yet its role in the creative industry remains a subject of intense debate.

While AI can streamline processes and enhance productivity, its application in generating art and content raises important questions about the value and uniqueness of artists creativity.

  • AI art devalues artists creativity and artistic skills1,3. It threatens to erode the market for original artist-made artworks and deprives artists of their livelihoods1,2.

  • AI-generated art lacks the emotional depth, unique human experiences, and soul that define true artistic expression1,4. It is a shallow imitation, a soulless doppelganger of the artists creative process4.

  • AI art raises complex ethical issues around intellectual property rights, authorship and ownership1.

  • It often involves the theft of artistic styles and plagiarism of existing works without proper credit or compensation to the original artists2,4.

  • AI systems can perpetuate biases and cultural appropriation in art if not properly curated1. They may inadvertently reinforce social inequalities and insensitivities1.

  • AI art is not true art at all4. Like a robot is not human, the products created by AI cannot be considered art in the fullest sense4,5. They lack originality, meaning and the reasoning behind the creative process4.

  • Artists should develop AI primarily as a tool to enhance and augment artists creativity, not to replace it entirely1,3.

As we navigate the evolving landscape of technology and art, it is imperative to strike a balance between innovation and preservation.

AI should be viewed as a complement to artist ingenuity, not a replacement.

By fostering a collaborative relationship art and artists, we can ensure that technology serves to amplify rather than diminish the rich tapestry of artists expression.

It is through this synergy that we can safeguard the integrity of art and celebrate the irreplaceable contributions of artists creativity.
